With a career that started in civil engineering and subsequently as a Chartered Accountant, he has held positions in major international businesses including Group Finance Director for BAT Industries plc, Barclays Bank plc and Chief Operating Officer for Zurich Financial Services. He is currently Chairman of Arena Coventry Ltd, Senior Non-Executive Director of Intertek Group PLC and William Hill PLC and a Non-Executive Director of Thomas Cook Group plc and Friends Provident Group. He is a former board member of the UK Accounting Standards Board.
