Children Play It Safe
25 February 2010
Children at Telscombe Cliffs Community Primary School in Sussex
learnt about the dangers of playing near construction sites during
a talk by Southern Water's supplier *4Delivery, which is working on
a large construction project in the area.
4Delivery is carrying out the £300 million project to bring
cleaner seas to Sussex by building a new wastewater treatment works
and sludge recycling centre in Peacehaven along with an 11km sewer
tunnel between Brighton Marina and the new treatment works. The
work also includes building a new pumping station at Portobello
near Telscombe Cliffs.
During the health and safety talk at the school, 4Delivery
Community Liaison Manager James York explained the dangers of
playing near construction sites.
Head teacher, Gillian Webb, said: "We would like to thank
4Delivery for coming along to the school as part of our community
awareness programme and speaking to the pupils about the dangers of
playing on a construction site. Our pupils engaged positively in
the workshop and it has given them a good understanding about how
to keep safe."
4Delivery Project Manager, Craig
Reade, said: "Safety is our number one priority so when we are
working in the community it is essential that children are made
aware of the dangers of playing on and around construction sites.
We are always pleased to have the opportunity to talk to schools in
the areas where we're working."
4Delivery is a consortium comprising United Utilities, Costain
and MWH, and is carrying out a programme of environmental
improvement and water quality schemes for Southern Water until
2015. The improvements are taking place across Kent, Sussex,
Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and include the £300 million
scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex. For more information go to
