Costain Strikes Gold
3 June 2010
Five Costain sites have struck gold in this year's Considerate
Constructors Scheme (CCS) national awards.
The M27 J3-4 Widening, St German's Pumping Station, Lewisham
Schools, and the A34 Wolvercote Viaduct Replacement Scheme each won
a gold award. The Church Village Bypass won two, for construction
activities monitored in 2009 and 2010. In addition, five sites
earned silver awards and five earned bronze, making the 2010 CCS
award tally one of Costain's best yet.
The Costain sites were among the 580 winners selected from the
7600 sites signed up to the CCS. These sites are monitored against
a Code of Considerate Practice designed to encourage best practice
beyond statutory requirements. The Code requires contractors to be
considerate and good neighbours, as well as clean, respectful,
safe, responsible, accountable and environmentally conscious.
"The beauty of the CCS awards is that they are independently
assessed, which makes them a valuable benchmark," said Peter
Fisher, Health, Safety and Environment Director.
For Dan Powrie, Project Manager at Church Village Bypass, the
site's gold awards are also acknowledgement of the team's hard
work.
"These two prestigious awards recognise our efforts to minimise
disruption to the public, to reduce the impact of the project on
the environment and to support our workforce. We will
continue to put good public interface at the forefront of all our
efforts."
Added Peter: "Our success in this year's awards is recognition
of the hard work put in by all our site teams. And it's yet another
reason why clients should choose Costain. Well done everybody."
