A-one+ Wins Gold At International CSR Excellence Awards

CSR Award

20 July 2015

A-one+, a joint venture between Costain, Colas and CH2M, recently won Gold at the International Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Awards in London.

The awards were held at the Empire Casino, Leicester Square and are presented to companies that use their privileged position to help their colleagues, communities, customers, the environment and the less fortunate. The team won in the ‘Sustainability in the Building and Construction’ category for its work in Area 12 of Highways England’s operational area.

The Gold award recognises the team’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, increasing recycling, minimising waste, saving energy and improving the biodiversity across its network.

A-one+ is currently working in Area 7, East Midlands; Area 12, Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, and Area 14 in the North East. Area 12 contains 354km of motorways and 349km of trunk roads in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, and includes the A1, M1, M62, M18, M180, and A64.

A-one+’s performance is measured each month by Highways England through its Collaborative Performance Framework. To ensure the highest standards of safety, asset, value and sustainable solutions are met, A-one+ set up Integrated Working Groups (IWGs).

The judges made particular reference to the work carried out by the Area 12 Ambassadors Group under the Social Sustainability banner, which promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and WISE (Women In Science, Technology and Engineering) events throughout schools in the region.

“As a responsible Company, we take our commitment to the communities we serve very seriously, but we know we need to continually improve and raise standards. Highways England will receive a duplicate award in recognition of their support in the delivery of sustainable solutions across the business,” said Brian Dunn, Chair of the Sustainability IWG for A-one+ Area 12.
