BBC Spotlight For Port Talbot

18 April 2012

The Costain team working on the PDR scheme in Port Talbot* received national media coverage recently when BBC Radio 4 and BBC News online visited the site in South Wales to investigate the community benefits of the project.

Following a visit by Welsh Government Minister for Finance, Jane Hutt, the BBC featured the project on Radio 4’s “File on Four” as well as their online news service. Harbour Way was held up as an example of how public service contacts could be won by not just looking at best price, but by incorporating a community benefit plan including job creation and economic regeneration.

Project Manager, John Skentelbery, said: “To have a prestigious programme like File on Four take an interest in the project for the work we are doing for the community of Neath Port Talbot is a fantastic boost, not just for the scheme, but for the people who are working on the PDR too.

”To be applauded for the extra work we are doing goes to show there is more to construction that just building objects and helps to improve the image of our industry.”

*The PDR scheme includes the construction of a bridge over the Swansea to London railway, railway realignment and signalling works and a new main entrance into Port Talbot Tata Steelworks.
