Costain Awards Highlight Excellence

14 December 2015

This year’s Costain Annual Awards ceremony was always going to be particularly special, given the Company’s celebration of its 150th anniversary. And so it turned out, for several reasons.

Marking the special circumstances required a very special venue – which was why nominees, top executives and their partners arrived at The Pavilion at the historic Tower of London, one of the capital’s most iconic buildings.

It was also special for the record number of nominations received by the awards’ judges, a testament to how many groups and individuals were deemed to have gone above and beyond what an organisation can reasonably expect of its staff.

“We were delighted to receive a record 1294 nominations from around the business for the awards,” said Chief Executive Andrew Wyllie. “To be shortlisted is therefore an achievement in itself and all of those who have been shortlisted have done something extraordinary.”

The past year, of course, has also seen the Costain 150 Challenge, by which the Company pledged to raise £1 million pounds for four very deserving causes – the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Prince’s Trust and The Samaritans.

“When we launched the 150 Challenge we realised the size of the task,” said Andrew. “However, our confidence was high because we were relying on Costain people to succeed. They were the ones who would stage the fund-raising events, which would cover a multitude of activities from baking cakes to parachuting out of planes.

“The excellent performance of our business, combined with the 150 Challenge, has clearly demonstrated the special qualities of Costain people.”

The glittering evening’s high point was the presentation of the awards, with the following being nominated in the 11 categories:
