Costain Highly Commended At CITB Apprenticeship Awards

Team Seeks Low-Carbon Supply Chain

27 October 2015

Costain was recently commended for its commitment to apprentices at a major industry award ceremony in London.

The Company was Highly Commended in the Large Apprentice Employer of the Year Award at the 2015 CITB Managing Agency Apprenticeship Awards, which took place at Plaisterers Hall in London. CITB is the largest provider of apprentices of the construction industry in the UK, with over 50 years’ experience of developing skilled workers.

Presented by former Blue Peter presenter and adventurer, Helen Skelton, the event celebrated the achievement of apprentices and the employers who support them.

Apprentices were recognised for overcoming adversity and exceeding expectations, to shine as stars for the future of our industry. Construction companies who employ, support and promote Apprenticeships were also acknowledged for the vital work they do to develop talent.

“Being Highly Commended for such a prestigious award clearly shows the work we are doing in employing apprentices is being recognised by the wider industry,” said Caroline Towner, Costain’s Apprenticeship Manager.

In little over two years Costain has more than doubled the number of apprentices it employs across its business. It currently has apprenticeships in a number of industry critical disciplines, including building and civil engineering, electrical installation, business administration, accountancy, instrument design, civil/structural design and piping design.

“Apprentices play a vital role in the future success of the industry and Costain is committed to providing real long-term opportunities for its apprentices. We have gone from 42 apprentices in 2013 to 109 in 2015 across a broad range of disciplines and levels,” said Caroline.
