Innovation On Show During Costain Climate Week

20 May 2016

Costain is once again demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future with its third annual Climate Week Campaign taking place from 23rd to 27th May.

The Costain Climate Week Campaign aims to raise awareness of the impact of climate change and look at how Costain can tackle these challenges through business improvement and innovation in line with its business strategy, ‘Engineering a Sustainable Tomorrow’

Tim Embley, Group Innovation and Knowledge Manager commented: “I am delighted with the response from our value chain, who have risen to the challenge since we launched our business strategy. They have focused their business resource to bring and share sustainable innovation that will create a more economical future. Through their contribution, they will make a demonstrable difference to the services we provide to our customers.”

There will be a range of events and activities including six Innovation Inspiration days at key suppliers Lynch, Speedy, Komatsu, Volvo and Hanson. The days are designed to give Costain employees the opportunity to try out the very latest resource-efficient plant and equipment that can help make the business more sustainable. Hands-on product demonstrations and trials will be followed by interactive sessions to provide our partners with feedback on areas for future innovation focus.

Find Innovation Inspiration at:

Lynch: 23rd May, Dartford, Kent
Speedy: 24th May, Hatton Cross and 26th May, Tamworth
Volvo: 24th May, Warwick
Komatsu: 25th May, Chester-Le-Street
Hanson: 26th May, Kings Cross, London

Two of Costain’s strategic supply chain partners are also hosting Lunch and Learn sessions at a number of projects and offices. They’ll be talking about sustainability initiatives they have successfully carried out.

The organiser of the Inspirations days this year is Lara Young: “I’m really excited about the response I have received from the business and partners, demonstrating that we have the expertise and a range of innovative sustainable solutions that continue to come through an innovation pipeline. The business is taking Climate Week very seriously, providing the opportunity for those that are responding to strengthen their relationship with Costain.”

Looking further ahead, keep an eye out for new ideas from Costain’s Carbon Challenge. Our Resource Efficiency Champions, Innovation & Knowledge Exchange Champions, first year Graduates and Environmental Team are all working together to come up with innovative ways of cutting carbon to help tackle the industry’s climate change challenges. They’ll be submitting their ideas to the business at the end of June.

Damien Canning, Group Carbon Manager, supporting the week said; “Addressing climate change is a big issue for society and we must work together to make a difference. There are many business benefits but more importantly we can all do our bit to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. If you are interested in making a contribution, please pledge your commitment to Lara Young at [email protected].”
