Joint Venture Begins Major Southern Water Project

16 September 2014

4Delivery, the Costain-led JV with MWH and Veolia Water, is about to begin work on a new £63.5 million wastewater treatment works for Southern Water at Woolston in Southampton.

The contract involves demolishing the existing treatment works which date from 1966, and building new treatment units, tanks, pumping stations and storage facilities in its place.

The first phase of the work, which gets underway in September, will be to build a temporary works to treat wastewater before all elements of the existing site are demolished. Once this is complete, work will then start on the construction of the new treatment plant.

The new scheme will significantly reduce smells and noise coming from the site, and ensure the treated wastewater leaving the site meets new, higher environmental standards.  Its sleek new wave-inspired design will also improve the appearance of the works, enabling it to fit in with a redevelopment of the area.

The project is expected to be complete in 2019.
