Portfolio Broadens As Consultants Make Presence Felt

26 July 2016

A wider spread of expertise is increasingly apparent in Costain as former Rhead Group staff deploy throughout the Group’s sectors to support Costain’s customers, says Consultancy and Advisory Director Nigel Curry.

The acquisition of Rhead last summer is playing a major role in achieving Costain’s ambitions to offer customers a full spectrum of integrated services, from initial consultancy to end-of-life arrangements for decommissioned assets.

Although Costain was already moving to broaden its portfolio of activities beyond its traditional skills in engineering and construction to encompass areas such as consultancy, Nigel – who joined from Coventry-based Rhead – believes the acquisition gave that process “a catalyst that has created a significant impact.

“Organically, Costain was broadening its services and the acquisition has helped to add additional capability, whilst further underpinning the Group strategy.” It brought around 600 consultants into the Group.

“The integration has gone very well and is now fully embedded within Costain.”

Rhead developed strong customer relationships, which have all transitioned to Costain. “Our focus is to expand the services we offer our top 30 to 40 customers to help increase the efficiency of project delivery by engaging earlier in the programme lifecycle.”

“The broadening of consultancy services has already added just over £40million in 2016, with a plan to significantly grow this through to 2017 and onwards.”
