Striking the Right Tone

4 November 2009

It was raucous and it was rhythmic ... it was Construction Rocks 2009, an industry 'battle of the bands' charity event.

Helping to keep the event's running order was Costain's Birmingham-based  Innovation Manager Peter Ball, himself a keen musician but on this occasion helping out on the organisational side.

Held in St Pancras, London, the event brought together 10 bands from construction companies or with involvement in the sector, with the aim of raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Sports Aid.

Costain helped sponsor the event by providing Peter's services; his stage manager duties covered everything from setting-up to clearing up at the end of the night.

With each band putting up £100 as an entry fee and refreshments being sold to the crowd of several hundred that turned up for an evening of rock, a very respectable £5,000 was raised in just a few hours.
