Delivered the reopening of Eastbourne Terrace on time

A collaborative approach

To build the new Crossrail station at Paddington, we used a top-down construction technique to sequence the programme. This ensured Paddington’s Eastbourne Terrace was reopened on schedule and Crossrail’s tunnel boring machines transited the new station without delay. Without a significant amount of collaboration between many parties this would not have been possible.

Innovation and technology-led solutions

  • Web-based observation and reporting system from smartphones developed specifically for Paddington to improve operation efficiency
  • 4D Building Information Modelling (BIM) for interface management and developing temporary works
  • Co-ordinated design reviews through marking up virtual drawings and walkthroughs using 3D BIM and interactive screen
  • LED lights around vertical access holes that change colour to warn when a load is in transit
  • 3D printing to visualise bespoke light fittings before placing an order for a sample to ensure all stakeholders were in agreement.

The reopening of Paddington’s Eastbourne Terrace on schedule is a fantastic example of how collaboration with a range of different stakeholders can achieve strict deadlines despite significant challenges.
