Our procurement focuses on both local and UK suppliers. However, it is inevitable that the global market will be a contributor to the numerous components used to deliver our clients’ needs.
Supply chain management
We believe in engaging early with our supply chain. This begins at the work winning phase, as it demonstrates to our customers how we collaborate effectively to deliver the best possible solution for their project or scheme. To achieve this, we identify key strategic partners in various trades, material suppliers and services.
Supply Chain Academy
Our Supply Chain Academy supports and develops small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which is driven by our commitment to be a responsible and sustainable business that creates economic, environmental and social value. The Academy aims to align our supply chain partners with the high standard of training and development adopted across the Group.
There are 17 modules in total, covering areas that include lean approach to improvement; commercial awareness; creating social value; carbon management and developing & financing an effective innovation strategy.
Since opening its doors in 2012, the Supply Chain Academy has welcomed over 5000 attendees, all of whom have benefited from a structured programme of learning delivered by experts from both within our business and our strategic partners.
Supply chain innovation
Costain’s innovation capability is driven by our supply chain. More than 90% of our innovation is enabled through our supply chain. This is why we work closely to support suppliers in establishing their new products and services. We do this by direct engagement, we do it in support of the Supply Chain Academy, dispersing our BSI Kitemarked systems knowledge to support suppliers develop their systems, and we do it by supporting and leading on accelerators, including partnerships with National Highways and High Speed 2.
