About Geraint

While being mindful of the complexities required, Geraint’s empathetic nature creates an open environment for clients to openly discuss their needs and understand the leading-edge solutions Costain can provide to eliminate harm in the wider sense, which includes achieving net-zero carbon emissions and biodiversity net-gain targets.

Geraint on overcoming challenges of environment management

The geography graduate is keen to dispel the view that environmental management is a policing role carried out once a project has started and is the sole responsibility of environmental staff.  Over the last decade, Geraint has witnessed a shift in people’s attitude towards the protection of our planet and this has been reflected in the breadth of issues covered by his role, with additional major focus areas now on carbon management and sustainable procurement, which were not on the agenda 10 years ago. Alongside this is recognition of the complexities of environmental law and the subsequent increasing requirements being built into the planning consents of major infrastructure programmes. Rightly, he believes there is now an understanding that delivering in a sustainable way requires considerable input and leadership from many teams from design, architecture and engineering to procurement and logistics, throughout the lifecycle of a project.

Geraint’s biggest professional achievement

Highlights include industry recognition for Costain’s leading-edge environmental management through four CEEQUAL exceptional achievement awards for its work on London Bridge Station and London Power Tunnels projects. Geraint’s goal is to help Costain be recognised as a leader in carbon reduction and at the same time continue to develop more environmental leaders within the business. He’s also working towards becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
