Helen joined Costain early in 2021 as digital growth leader for Costain’s water business, responsible for leading, developing and delivering sales growth by working closely with clients to understand their needs and translate them into leading edge solutions. A proactive leader, Helen believes engagement and building strong relationships with stakeholders is key to success.
Helen on her role
Water and wastewater are taken away, treated, and returned to the environment in a sustainable way and providing safe, clean drinking water. The assets and infrastructure that make that happen, run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and require continuous operation and maintenance. Helen’s role enables reliable digital enhancements of the assets, leading to more efficient and effective use. All of this can reduce cost and minimise environmental impact.
Helen’s typical day at work
“I speak to a lot of people. Which suits me down to the ground! Not only do I bring people together to collaborate on large ground-breaking solutions for end users, but I get to develop our offerings into the best solutions for our clients and the environment."
Helen’s biggest professional achievement and why?
“I worked at United Utilities on the Flooding Mitigation team before joining Costain. We reduced the impact of wastewater flooding for customers by fitting protection devices to minimise the impingement. Awards were won for the speed and efficiency to the service, but that was only a small part of the achievement for me. The best part was knowing that people would no longer be affected by the sewer flooding incidents.”
Three things you might not know about Helen
She’s a keen knitter and enjoys making Christmas jumpers and when she’s not holding the needles, Helen de-stresses on the shooting range as a skeet discipline expert with her 12-bore Beretta. As a teenager, one of Helen’s first jobs was working on a market stall selling everything from light bulbs to hoover bags.
