Get a taste of what it's like to work in engineering and construction

Gaining relevant work experience is a great stepping stone to kick-starting your career. We offer 1-2 week placements for students aged 14-18 years old who are looking to gain valuable work experience in an engineering and technology environment. It can also lead to a paid apprenticeship.

What’s involved?

Our work experience programme is all about giving you a taste of what it would be like to work on a live infrastructure project or in an office environment.

You will learn vital interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving, as well as gain a better understanding of the wide breadth of roles within Costain.

Tips for parents and carers

  • Work experience should be enjoyable, informative and fuel an interest in the industry. It’s a good idea to discuss the opportunity with your young person and get an understanding of what they might get out of the experience.
  • You could ask to see any objectives they or their school have set for the placement.
  • You can raise any questions or concerns with our dedicated early careers team – we’re here to help your child or young person succeed.
  • Encourage your young person to be curious and ask questions, get involved and make the most of the placement.
