Over a year and a half has passed since we started on our MobiCloud journey. For those that don’t know, MobiCloud is a part European funded project aimed at implementing efficiencies for those working out in the field through the use of mobile technology.

What have we achieved so far?

The site diary app

This app is designed to allow real time recording of site activities at the work front via IOS or Android devices. This includes labour and plant allocation from a pre-defined list, the ability to attach real time photos or a selection from the device gallery to each event and automatically records the weather due to its link to your local weather widget. The app is also complimented by a back-end system that allows you to view events and search for individual events depending upon your desired criteria.

What are the latest site diary updates?

The MobiCloud team is very grateful for the fantastic feedback from the site diary users which now stem across every Sector of the business as well as those that are using the app outside of Costain and within the wider industry. The development team has again been working hard to deliver some significant updates that continue to improve functionality of the application:

PDF summary reports

As the site diary becomes the adopted solution for all site diary records on major projects, the format of the output becomes more important. Now with just one click of a button, the back-end summary can be downloaded into a seven day PDF report. This summary displays the site diary data in a clear and easy to view format, which allows projects to incorporate the information into their relevant business collaborator.

Event durations

The addition of event duration now allows the commercial and management teams to not only assess what resources were being used on a particular activity but also how long they spent on that activity. This vital update further improves the integrity and the usability of the data captured through the site diary application.

Back-end event recording

In order to satisfy all roles within the business, events can now be input from the back-end system i.e. from your computer as well as the device itself.

What’s next for the site diary app?

We constantly want to improve the site diary application and act on the feedback we receive from our users. We have several updates on the development horizon including, time and date stamping of photos to further increase the reliability of the data captured, approval button feature to lock down approved events so they cannot be edited at a later date and graphical differentiation so that users can easily identify between the events that have been approved or pending approval.

We are hopeful that these significant improvements will increase our number of users as the application fulfils the complete requirements of the site diary process.
