AGR Award For Graduate Development

5 May 2015

Costain recently won the Association of Graduate Recruiters’ (AGR) award for ‘Business–led Development’ at the association’s 2015 Graduate Development Awards in central London.

The recent event at etc.Venues, St Paul’s, celebrated the efforts made by public and private sector organisations in developing and training their graduate recruits.

Costain received the ‘Business-Led Development’ award, which recognises excellence in developing graduates’ skill levels to enable them to apply awareness, knowledge and skills that are of critical importance to meet key challenges within an organisation.

The judges commended Costain for “their highly-impactful supply-chain management initiatives, which successfully ensure that graduates understand Costain’s relationship with its suppliers as a result of activities which add value to the business.”

Costain recruits approximately 80-100 graduates each year in over eight different streams, including Supply Chain Management. As part of its award winning Graduate Development Programme, every graduate has a role that requires them to manage supply chain partners.

This is vital to the success of the business. In 2014, over 85% of Costain’s graduates were actively involved in managing the Company’s supply chain. That means that everything that a Graduate learns during the supply chain management development initiative is immediately put into practice in their day job.

It’s a strategy that works. Costain measures supply chain satisfaction in five key areas (People, Health and Safety, Time, Quality, Cost and Commercial) every quarter. Costain’s relationships with its supply chain have contributed to an improvement in the average key supplier performance score, with the number of suppliers achieving Costain Blue standard (80% or above) in a single quarterly review increasing to 255 in 2013 from 171 in 2012, a 49% increase.

“We are delighted to be recognised at the AGR’s Graduate Development Awards. Our successful supply chain relationships not only contribute to us meeting our strategic objective of working in collaboration, but they also enable us to operate safely, efficiently and responsibly, continuing to enhance customer insight, broadening and integrating our services and creating and delivering innovative solutions,” said Indy Lachhar, Group Talent Manager.

The AGR is an employer-led membership organisation, whose goal it is to ensure that all members can recruit and develop the best student talent for their needs and the needs of the UK economy.
