Best In Sector

27 June 2011

Costain has been named the best in sector in Business in the Community’s 2011 Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI).

The Company recently achieved Platinum in the BITC’s CR Index 2011 after being assessed on four key management areas, including Community, Environment, Marketplace and Workplace. Costain’s peers in BITC’s Construction and Materials Sector include Morgan Sindall, which achieved Bronze, Kier Group with Silver and BAM Construct UK which achieved Gold.

Run by BITC, the CR Index is an assessment process designed to help companies integrate and improve responsibility throughout their entire operations.  It provides a systematic approach to measure and report on responsibility, enabling companies that are ranked to track their progress and achievements and continually improve their impact on society.

Commenting on the award, Catherine Warbrick, Costain’s Corporate Responsibility Director, said: “We are delighted to have been named as the highest ranking new entry in the Construction & Materials Sector which shows Costain is taking a leading position in terms of responsible business.”

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community, added: “I congratulate Costain on leading the way in their sector in this year’s BITC Corporate Responsibility Index. It is a challenging time, but the results of this year’s Index demonstrate that companies are still focused on transforming their businesses in order to have a positive impact on society. All the companies who participated this year are at different stages in their responsible business journey, but they are all taking these issues seriously and are prepared to lead by example.”
