Changing Roles For Apprenticeship Week

21 February 2012

As part of the recent National Apprenticeship Week, Costain’s Environmental Services Director, Andy Bull, and three young apprentices, Ross Olney, Sam Marshall and Osman Farooq, swapped jobs for the day.

This was Costain’s first involvement in National Apprenticeship Week which has run for the past four years, and reflects our growing emphasis on an Apprenticeship being a valid route of entry into Costain Group and the industry as a whole. During 2011 we recruited 20 new apprentices and hope to increase this number across the whole Costain Group in 2012.

During the morning, Andy was instructed by the three apprentices on how to carry out various experiments in the Geotechnical materials laboratory and really enjoyed himself.

The apprentices then accompanied Andy to Head Office, where they attended a Commercial Review meeting and gave a presentation to some of the senior Environmental Services team including Paul Clough, John Richardson and Andy.

After the event Andy commented:

“I found real value in the job swap. I would recommend it to other managers and will be planning further similar sessions.”
