Costain Awarded Highways Agency MAC 14 Contract

Costain, as a member of the A-one+ joint venture with consulting engineers Halcrow and contractor Colas, has been awarded a five-year £115million Managing Agent Contractor ('MAC') contract to carry out routine operational and maintenance services and deliver improvements on the motorways and trunk roads in Area 14, which covers Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and North Yorkshire.

The Highways Agency's network in Area 14 contains 635 kilometres of motorway and trunk roads as well as 419 structures such as bridges and gantries.
 
The contract will take effect from 1 July 2010.

Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive, said:

"This is an important contract award for Costain.  We have targeted maintenance contracts as a key priority in line with our strategic goal of achieving a significant market share in this area."
