Costain Awarded Power Distribution Framework Contract

29 July 2013

Costain, one of the UK’s leading engineering solutions providers, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded one of three places on the 132 kilovolt (‘kV’) and 33 kV Steel Tower Overhead Line framework contract with UK Power Networks.  The framework is initially valued at approximately £26 million over the next two years with the potential thereafter to extend the framework for a further eight years.

UK Power Networks is investing £360 million this year on upgrading the power distribution infrastructure in the South East, East of England and London and this framework contract forms part of that investment programme.  It involves the design and construction of 132kV and 33kV steel tower overhead lines and BT21 fibre-optics throughout UK Power Networks’ operational area, which covers more than 29,000 sq km from The Wash in the East to the River Arun on the South Coast.

The contract comes into effect immediately.

Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, commented,

“The upgrade of the UK’s electricity distribution system and the installation of fibre-optic infrastructure to improve connectivity are both major national needs. The appointment to this framework contract for a new customer demonstrates the success of Costain’s focus on blue chip customers who are investing billions in meeting these needs.

“It also reflects the success of our strategy to broaden our service offering to encompass design and advisory services as well as complex project delivery.”
