Costain Launches Contract Leaders Board

11 December 2013

Costain has set up an experienced leadership group to strengthen further how the Company responds to the needs of its customers.

The group has been set up to improve the communication process between the Company’s Executive Board, Central Functions and the individual contracts. Called the Contract Leaders Board (CLB), it comprises 20 senior contract leaders* from across the business, representing all aspects of Costain’s operating sectors and service lines. The group will be chaired by Clive Loosemore, Costain’s Contract Director at London Bridge, and will convene every three months.

The group’s meetings give the contract leaders an opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences. The aim is to harness the broad range of skills and knowledge within the Company in order to further strengthen best practice across the Group. Recommendations arising from the meetings will be fed back to the Executive Board and the Central Functions.

“The Contract Leaders Board is an excellent vehicle for all staff at the sharp end of the business to give feedback about a customer’s needs and expectations, as well as ensure that Costain continues to focus on issues that the customer feels are important. It will also give contract staff the opportunity to voice any suggestions about potential improvements that they believe will help to deliver efficiencies,” said Clive.

Members of the CLB will also attend meetings of the other decision making groups within the Shared Services / Central Functions of the business, including SHE, IT, HR, Training, Business Systems, Procurement, Central Commercial Services, Central Engineering, Innovation and Technology, Work Winning and Business Development.

This will ensure that all members of staff have an opportunity to raise any issues they feel are important, particularly those that would improve the Company’s service offering. In addition, they can also update these groups on the customers’ views and what the customer believes will add value to their business, said Clive.

Commenting, Alan Kay, Costain’s Group Technical & Operations Director, added: “Solving problems and sharing solutions is an essential part of our day to day business. The Contract Leaders Board is another example of how we can work together to improve our performance and help our customers achieve their goals, and we encourage all staff to make contact with the CLB with appropriate suggestions.”

* The Contract Leaders Board is Barry Woodman, Chris Scott, Clive Loosemore, David Woodhouse, Doug Coutts, Graeme Stewart, Graham Sugrue, Isabel Coman, Joe Kemm, John Madden, John Boyd, John Meakin, John Skentelbery, Mark Sowerby, Martin Baughurst, Phil Risbridger, Ritchie Burcombe, Rob Phillips, Stuart Campbell, Tony McKeown, Vicknayson Thevendran.
