Costain Teams Up With Southern Water For Charity

4 January 2012

Costain, in conjunction with 4D and Southern Water, recently helped to raise £11,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support at Southern Water’s Irish Saturday Charity Race Day at Fontwell Park Racecourse, in West Sussex.

The day comprised seven races, with Costain sponsoring one race – The 4D Race – along with its 4D partners MWH and Veolia Water. Now in its fifth year, the event attracted 6,000 people and raised £80,000 in total for charities chosen by Southern Water staff.

Costain, which is working with Southern Water on the 4Delivery project to deliver a programme of capital works including a major new wastewater plant to serve Brighton and Hove, took a table at the three-course lunch hosted by Alan Kay, Costain Managing Director - Environment.

Tables were also taken by 4D and the Brighton & Hove team and money was raised through table sales, auctions and raffles in the hospitality lounge. Entertainment was provided by Irish rockers The Saw Doctors at an open air concert.

Costain’s chosen charity was Macmillan Cancer Support which provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support for people whose lives have been affected by cancer.

The official presentation of the cheque took place on 23 November with the money going towards the Sussex Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre in Brighton where Macmillan has a £3.7million appeal.

The new centre will help people living with cancer across the Sussex cancer network and will offer specialist information and quality resources, welfare benefits advice, counselling services, complementary therapies, a hair and wig service, a café and dietary advice, as well as self help and support groups.

Mandy Kendall, Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We want to say a very big thank you to Costain, 4D and Southern Water for their support and for putting on a fantastic day. Without the support of companies like Costain and Southern Water we wouldn’t be able to reach our aim of ensuring that every person affected by cancer receives the support, information and care that they need.”

Commenting on the event, Graham Keegan, Costain's Water Director, said: “We are proud to have been associated with Macmillan Cancer Support and thank Southern Water for putting on a spectacular day which was enjoyed by all.”
