Designing For Success

5 July 2016

At Costain’s recent Supply Chain Conference 2016, the theme was ‘Growing our Businesses Together’. With 200 of our partners in attendance and a further 70 members of Costain’s senior team including Main Board and Executive Board members, the event was held at the iconic Crystal building in London’s docklands.

David Taylor, Group Commercial Director, focused his opening remarks on safe working, collaboration and innovation as key ingredients for those partners looking to grow together with Costain. David said “I think of the Supply Chain as an extended Costain family. It’s very important that we gather periodically to present our corporate strategy and our thoughts on how we go about successfully winning and delivering work.”

As part of the day a number of partners were recognised for high performance by Richard Howell, Group Head of Supply Chain and Dan Rennison, Group Head of Design Management. For the Design Service category, Mott MacDonald were recognised for their consistent high performance with an average of score of 740 out of 1000 from our quarterly designer performance reporting system. This average score was achieved over a period of 8 quarters on projects such as Crossrail C610, system wide fit out of 42km of dual running tunnels and Thames Tideway Tunnel East, part of the £2bn super sewer programme.

Dan Rennison said “With design being a key enabler to the safe, efficient and timely delivery of our projects, to have such consistent performance over 2 years is a fantastic achievement and we are pleased to be continuing the long term relationship with Mott MacDonald.”

Michael Francis, Project Director for Thames Tideway East, seen here receiving the award from David Taylor (left), remarked "I was very proud to collect the award from Costain, a major player in the construction sector. It represents the fruit of consistent high performance from our teams on both Crossrail and Tideway projects. Congratulations to all who have contributed!"

Neil Henderson, Divisional Director for Rail commented. "This is an excellent achievement for the teams working with Costain (as part of the ATC JV) on the Crossrail C610 project. The award also recognises the effort the wider Mott MacDonald teams have delivered over the last two years and we look forward to continuing to deliver successful projects with Costain in the future.”

The conference also provided networking opportunities for all those who attended and to hear Andrew Wyllie, Costain Chief Executive, give a presentation on the Group’s progress and future strategy.
