Costain has been awarded Approved Employer Status by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), recognising the Company’s support given to ACCA trainees working towards their ACCA qualification.

The Company achieved Trainee Development Gold for the high standard of training and development provided by Costain.  Approval is awarded for a period of three years from the date of formal acceptance on the scheme and allows ACCA students to simplify their application for full membership upon completion of their professional studies. ACCA is the global body for professional accountants, offering business-relevant qualifications to people seeking a career in accountancy, finance and management.

In order to become an ACCA Approved Trainee Development Employer, companies have to commit to the following three principles and provide detailed evidence to show compliance in each of the related criteria:

Plan – Objectives and individual learning needs are identified as part of the performance review

Do – Provide practical experience to meet the objectives, and support to study for the ACCA exams

Review – Performance and practical experience is regularly reviewed

“The continuous development of our finance team is very important to the success of Costain and I am delighted that ACCA has recognised the quality of our training and development programme,” said Matthew Harris, Finance Director for Costain’s Natural Resources Division, who led the accreditation process.

Matthew added: “To gain accreditation, we had to demonstrate that we have an effective performance review and management process, offer high quality practical experience and a mentor process to ensure that the students’ development needs are met. We look forward to working closely with ACCA as we seek to expand our graduate finance intake across the Group.”

Costain has recently extended its successful Graduate Programme to include those seeking a career in finance and accountancy, ultimately leading to qualification as a Chartered Accountant.
