Power ‘First’ In Shropshire

Team Seeks Low-Carbon Supply Chain

29 March 2016

Costain has previously undertaken decommissioning contracts for nuclear plants. Now the first such contract for a conventional thermal power station is in place at the now-disused power station at Ironbridge, Shropshire.

Costain is established on site. The work consists of looking after the site while making it ‘demolition-ready’, said Power Generation Director Doug Cormack.

“Our scope covers the facilities management of this process involving industrial cleaning, mechanical engineering assistance, civils maintenance services, EC&I works and services, plus site maintenance management.

“We’ll either carry out the work ourselves or bring in specialist subcontractors to work alongside our team,” said Doug.

“Over the last 15 years our service delivery team have amassed significant experience with facilities management and O&M contracts. We have a lot of in-house expertise in this field.

“This is the first contract of this nature in this sector and will help us establish Costain’s reputation for future opportunities and growth.

“We are very excited about this opportunity and are looking beyond to navigate our customers through every phase of the complex decommissioning, demolition and remediation process of power plants.

“Our team of designers, consultants, engineers and operatives can collaborate with power plant owners, developers, and energy companies to ensure the transformation is successful.”
