Safety Award For Industrial Cooling Project

3 April 2013

Costain has been awarded a Silver Award for Contractor Safety Excellence 2012 by Drax Power Ltd for its work on an industrial cooling project at Drax Power Station.

The awards were listed in two safety categories: for those contractors that have worked up to 25,000 man-hours, and for those that have worked over 25,000 man-hours. Costain was nominated for working up to 25,000 man-hours for its work on an industrial cooling project that was successfully delivered last year.

Shaun Smith, Costain Senior Supervisor on the project, attended the Drax Safety Conference in Leeds to receive the award.  Drax praised Costain for its commitment to Health and Safety and its continued improvement year on year.

“Our working relationship with Drax Power has developed over many years. We have worked on a number of specialist cooling tower repair and maintenance contracts and, in all cases, striving to achieve an excellent health and safety record has been a number one priority,” said Shaun.

Mark Blackham, Industrial Cooling Director, added: “My team and I are delighted to now be in our fourth year without a Lost Time Accident. This award reflects our continual commitment to Health and Safety and the importance of behaving the right way, all of the time, on our projects.”
