Showcase For Graduates And Apprentices

11 February 2013

Costain is showcasing its range of vocational opportunities for graduates and apprentices at the upcoming Heathrow Jobs & Careers Fair.

The event, which is scheduled to take place on February 12 at the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel from 9.30am to 7pm, is free to enter and aims to encourage the 320 companies that work at London’s Heathrow Airport to recruit local people from the Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Slough and Spelthorne area.

The fair gives visitors, whether they’re students, teachers or parents, an opportunity to meet prospective employers and to get a better understanding about the range of opportunities available for school leavers and graduates.

The airport employs a large and diverse workforce in areas such as airline staff, security personnel, ground crew, fire and police officers, engineers, construction workers, caterers and retail staff, and all of the companies that work at Heathrow in these sectors will be represented at the event.

Costain has worked on a number of projects at Heathrow, which is one of the world’s busiest international airports with over 190,000 passengers a day across five terminals, including the repair and maintenance of existing infrastructure.

“The Heathrow Jobs & Careers Fair gives employers like Costain a fantastic opportunity to inform prospective apprentices and graduate trainees what skills, qualifications and characteristics we are looking for so they can make an informed decision about what career path to take and how Costain can help them,” said Joe Kemm, Costain’s Operations Director Airports.

Investing in young people and helping the industry address a long-term skills shortage is an integral component of Costain Cares, the Group’s strategy to build a long-term sustainable business. Now in its third year, the Costain Apprentice Scheme delivers training and employment opportunities to young people seeking a career in the construction and civil engineering industry and in fields ranging from engineering construction to business administration.

Donna Rose will be hosting Costain’s stand and giving prospective candidates the information they need about a career within the Group.

“Costain offers a wealth of opportunity for school leavers and graduates looking for a career in the construction and engineering industry. We’ll be giving advice about career progression and, if they’re interested, what the next steps are,” said Donna.
