Costain Energy & Process is continuing to strengthen its engineering capabilities in Abu Dhabi with the relocation of a Lead Process Engineer from Manchester.

Costain has a well established, highly-regarded construction operation in the oil-rich emirate, mainly based on Das Island. Clients of Costain's Abu Dhabi-based operation (CADCO) have requested that their corporate engineering capability is brought to the local market. On the basis of CADCO winning an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) type contract earlier last year Engineering Manager, Steve Coulson, was assigned from Costain's specialist oil and gas engineering office in Manchester to provide leadership for this project and further develop CADCO's engineering capability.

Recently, Lead Process Engineer David Wilkinson has been assigned to the Gulf state, enabling Costain to execute high-value concept and front end engineering design (FEED) projects from Costain's Abu Dhabi office, thus further satisfying their clients' request.

"Being based in Abu Dhabi enables direct communication with the clients, which is required to ensure Costain clearly understands the requirements needed to deliver high-quality concept and FEED work" he says. "Additionally, my role is to support CADCO's engineering manager in the preparation of bids and execution of further EPC projects."

The short-term aim is to enhance CADCO's relationships with Abu Dhabi's national oil company (ADNOC) by bringing Costain's gas processing technologies to its facilities.

Longer-term, the aim is to widen this concept/FEED capability in the Arabian Gulf in the six nations that make up the Gulf Co-operation Council - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - of which Abu Dhabi is one.

David will provide support to Costain's Business Development Manager, who regularly visits the region.
