Turner Prize

4 August 2010

The quality of Costain's younger staff members has been proved yet again with another University bestowing an award on a member of a project team.

Christopher Turner, Assistant Quantity Surveyor on the major project to renovate the Bidston Moss Viaduct on Merseyside, has been named the winner of John Moores University's EC Harris Prize for best Level 2 part-time student, having achieved the highest marks in his year. He is currently studying for a B.Sc. in Quantity Surveying and is due to graduate from the Liverpool-based University next summer.

He has been studying part-time with John Moores for the past two years, having previously studied at the University for the same length of time to obtain his Higher National Diploma.

"It's been a busy year," he says. "I had a baby in February, we moved into a new house in May and with my studies it's been more than a bit stressful. However, I had a lot of support from the guys on site. Senior QS Tim Leather and Project Manager Simon Ellison gave me time to study and Costain gave me time for study leave."

Chris, who joined Costain in July 2008 and is a sponsored student, received his prize of a £250 cheque at the University's graduation and prize-giving ceremony reception in Liverpool's Adelphi Hotel.
