WYLFA Team Gets Decorating For Hour Pledge

8 November 2016
Costain’s Active Effluent Discharge Line project team based at Wylfa site, Anglesey, recently gave a helping hand to the power station’s nearest community as part of ‘Hour Pledge’ the company’s charitable initiative.
The five-strong team worked hard for two days to spruce up Cemaes Community Flat by removing the old carpets, stripping wallpaper and giving it two fresh coats of paint. The flat recently came into ownership of Llanbadrig Community Council who plan to rent the flat out to generate income to fund core community activities. Derek Owen, Chairman Llanbadrig Community Council, was thrilled with the results and commented: “The Llanbadrig Community is extremely grateful for the two days of hard work. The community flat was transformed over the two days and it was a pleasure to meet and work with the Costain team. Many thanks again!”
Sian Taylor, Costain Office Manager at Wylfa, found the whole experience very worthwhile not only for the team but also the community. Jon Griffiths, Project Manager, summed it up by saying: “It’s always good to do something for the community surrounding a project and as this involved most of the Costain project team it doubled as a team building exercise!”
Employee volunteering is one of Costain’s community focused priorities for 2016, as outlined in the Company’s Sustainability Strategy. As part of the ‘Hour Pledge’, Costain’s staff have been challenged to donate 10,000 hours of their working time to good causes in 2016. Over 8,000 hours have been willingly given to benefit communities across the UK so far in 2016.
