Following Costain’s Big Infrastructure Conversation event, organised in collaboration with BITC, Andrew Wyllie CBE, Costain’s Chief Executive, offered inspirational work experience sessions to students from St Augustine’s CE High School who were interested in considering a future career in the engineering and construction sector.

Raising awareness of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills and engineering careers is essential to ensuring a pipeline of talent into our business. Giving young people the opportunity of inspirational work experience is an integral part of our Costain Cares strategy.

Catherine Warbrick, Costain’s Corporate Responsibility and Investor Relations Director

To provide the best experience for the students we rotated them around the various disciplines, such as quantity surveying, civil engineering and planning. Students were also given the opportunity to visit one of our customers, Crossrail, at their Canary Wharf headquarters. On this visit they were given a project to design a city metro railway line on a fictitious city map and present their reasoning for their design and decisions.
