Key Benefits

reduction in capital cost requirements offered by Costain solution

Compliance with environmental legislation

Enhanced flexibility of operation, supporting ability to process future offshore gas reserves

Plant kept operational throughout construction period

30% of project value spent with local supply chain

The Dimlington gas processing terminal, acquired by Perenco in 2012, uses refrigeration units to chill gas during processing to ensure the sales gas product meets the required specification for the national gas transmission system. The units used a refrigerant which is being phased out due to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

We helped Perenco to select an alternative, innovative application of technologies to deliver a low cost, high reliability solution. This is an example of how customers benefit from collaborative engagement with our front end specialists in the early stages of a project; the capital cost of our solution was 60% less than an alternative proposal.

Progress on schedule and budget

Following our initial proposal and concept, we completed the FEED study for the scheme. This was followed by the award of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management contract (EPCM), which is currently on schedule and budget. An Environment Agency compliance milestone was achieved in December 2014, and the project is scheduled for completion in December 2015.

Costain’s capabilities and positive approach to working closely with Perenco have resulted in a substantial reduction in scope and cost for the project compared to that produced by the previous asset owners. The novel bespoke solution has been a testament to the strengths of both companies’ knowledge and expertise and a desire to produce enhanced environmental and business results.
