CEEQUAL Award For Crossrail Project

12 October 2012

The C330 Royal Oak Portal contract in west London, for which a Costain Skanska joint venture (CSJV) was the contractor, has won Crossrail’s first ‘Whole Project Award’ under the CEEQUAL scheme.

CEEQUAL is the assessment and awards scheme for improving sustainability in civil engineering and the public realm. It aims to demonstrate the commitment of the civil engineering industry to environmental quality and social performance.

Crossrail had already been awarded ‘Excellent’ status under the CEEQUAL scheme for individual aspects of the contract.

CSJV Project Manager, Dr Vicknayson Thevendran, said examples of sustainability on the project included recycling aggregates for temporary and permanent works, for example using rainwater for the wheel-wash for vehicles leaving the site and solar panels to power monitoring equipment.

“For us it was business as usual, as it was in line with Costain’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy. The fact that we achieved an Excellent Award at such an early stage of the Crossrail project shows the potential this project has in making London a better place.”
