Costain to partner with Transport for London on two major road projects

15 February 2024

Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, has been appointed by Transport for London (TfL) to progress two major refurbishment projects at Gallows Corner Flyover and Brent Cross Interchange. The projects will ease congestion and improve the safety, reliability and quality of passenger journeys on the capital’s road network.

At Gallows Corner Flyover, Costain will create the detailed design and deliver the refurbishment of the complex structure, which joins the A127 to the A12 over Gallows Corner roundabout and enables access to the M25. This latest contract award follows on from the successful completion of the concept design phase. It will use innovative construction methods to minimise disruption from onsite working and reduce requirements for carbon intensive materials.

Costain will also produce the concept and detailed designs for planned renewals to Brent Cross Interchange, a major road junction which is used by more than 120,000 drivers each day. It connects two dual carriageways, the A406 and A41, and is made up of the A41 flyover and a gyratory above the A406, which also provides access to the M1 North and the A5. The concept design will develop TfL’s preferred option for renewing the structures which make up this vital road hub, with the detailed design setting out the best way of delivering these critical works.

Andy Clarke, Costain’s director for integrated transport, said: “We’re proud to be a trusted partner of Transport for London and we look forward to collaborating with our partners on these exciting projects. With a focus on delivering value for money, we’ll identify the most effective and innovative way to make these vital improvements to the local infrastructure. At the same time, we will reduce the scheme’s carbon footprint and minimise the impact of construction on road users and the local community.”
