Costain, one of the UK's leading engineering solutions providers, is pleased to announce that its Joint Venture [‘JV’], ABC Electrification Ltd, has been appointed by Network Rail as one of four suppliers to the £2bn National Electrification Programme, delivering electrification to more than two thousand miles of the UK’s rail system. The contract is valued at an initial £900m to the JV under a seven year term, extendable by a further three years.

ABC Electrification Ltd is an equal share JV comprising Alstom, Babcock and Costain. The JV has been awarded two out of the six geographical areas within the programme: London North West (South) region and the Wales and West region.

Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, commented:

"We are delighted to have been appointed to this major electrification programme by Network Rail, helping to upgrade and refresh the UK's transport infrastructure. This repeat order is a consequence of our ‘Engineering Tomorrow’ strategy, whereby we form long-term, strategic partnerships with our customers to deliver a broad range of services across the full life cycle of their assets."
