We strive to be a responsible and sustainable business which creates economic, environmental and social value. Our relationship with our supply chain is fundamental to this vision.

Supply chain management
We believe in engaging early with our supply chain to identify key strategic partners including trades, material suppliers and services. By understanding the opportunities and matching them to capabilities in a region, we can collaborate effectively to deliver the best possible solution for a project.

Supply Chain Academy
We support and develop SMEs to align our supply chain partners with the high standards of training and development employed by Costain.
With nearly 20 different modules, the academy provides skills and training in areas such as: a lean approach to improvement; commercial awareness and creating social value. Since its launch in 2012, the Academy has trained more than 5,000 individuals from SMEs.

Supply chain innovation
More than 90% of our innovation is enabled through our supply chain. We work with our suppliers to support product and service development through the Supply Chain Academy, sharing our BSI Kitemarked systems knowledge and supporting and leading on accelerators, including partnerships with National Highways and HS2.
This section provides information on how to become part of our supply chain and information for existing suppliers.
Working with Costain
How to become a supply chain partner
We value a diverse supply chain and seek organisations that mirror our culture, behaviours and standards.
To maintain the right calibre of suppliers within our supply chain, potential suppliers must follow one of two pre-assessment routes:
- Via the Achilles BuildingConfidence accreditation scheme. This is our preferred option. However, we now accept all recognised Common Assessment Standard (CAS) bodies and their associated accreditation schemes (click here to learn more).
- Via the Costain materials, plant or subcontract pre-qualification questionnaire completed through our Supplier Relationship Management system (SRM).
Registering your interest
Our customers deserve the best service and we want to work with responsible suppliers who have skills and experience across the full project lifecycle.
If your company would like to be considered for inclusion in our supply chain, please email our Procurement and Supply Chain team.
Your email should include your company name, your turnover, a brief summary of your services and areas of expertise with project examples and your trading locations.
Guidance for existing suppliers
As an existing supplier, your main point of contact will be through the project Procurement & Supply Chain Team you are working with, your category manager and/or your key supplier relationship manager (where applicable).
