We work with a number of organisations, including the Prince’s Trust, to help ensure that our opportunities are open to everyone and we’re here to support you in your career aspirations.
Our graduates and apprentices are all encouraged to undertake professional development through our accredited professional awarding bodies, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Chemical Engineers, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and many others.

Graduate roles
Our graduate programme enables graduates to hone their technical skills, learn about our business, develop business acumen and build personal and technical competencies to fast track their professional journey to chartership.
The programme also offers a unique opportunity to rotate around the different parts of Costain.
Apprenticeships
Our apprentice programmes gives apprentices the chance to continue working towards a recognised qualification, from level 2 up to level 7, whilst gaining work experience alongside highly skilled people who are eager to help them develop and grow their skills in the discipline of their choice.
Internships
If you are currently studying at university and looking to enter the industry for the first time, our internship programme gives you experience of what it’s like to work in our industry. You’ll learn vital interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving as well as becoming an integral part of the project team.
Internships are paid, can vary in length, and can lead to a permanent role with Costain.
Work experience
Get a taste of what it's like to work in engineering and construction.
If you’re at school or college and there is a Costain office or project nearby, we may be able to offer you work experience.
Students who take up work experience may in the future, come back to the business to take up an apprenticeship or sponsorship whilst at university.
