• Revamped PPE catalogue ensures improved comfort and accessibility for Costain’s people

Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, is offering an enhanced range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and workwear products, reinforcing its commitment to safety, inclusivity and sustainability.

In cooperation with its Disability and Wellbeing Network and Women’s Network, Costain has worked with its PPE and workwear supply partner Arco, to complete major update to its PPE and workwear catalogue. More than 150 inclusive and sustainable items are now available to Costain’s people to improve comfort, accessibility and fit for its workforce. In Costain’s 2025 Sustainability Report, 24% of its people stated they had a disability or long-term health condition.

Additions to the catalogue include a range of lace-free, dial and cable boots, otherwise known as BOA safety boots, designed for individuals who find traditional laces difficult to use. Clothing options feature thinner, more breathable fabrics to support individuals experiencing skin conditions, sensory issues or going through menopause. PPE can also be customised for individuals with limb differences.

More broadly, the catalogue has been revised to include a larger range of PPE, clothing and footwear produced using more sustainable methods, whereby items use a greater proportion of recycled materials and have a lower reduced water and energy footprint compared to traditional methods. The updates to the catalogue have doubled the number of sustainable PPE items available to Costain’s people.

“Working closely with Arco and colleagues from our inclusion networks, we’ve enhanced our PPE and workwear catalogue for our people, improving inclusivity without compromising on safety, quality or sustainability.”

Catherine Duffy Chief People and Sustainability Officer at Costain

“Through DaWN we’re able to bring about positive, inclusive improvements to our ways of working and we’re proud to have worked closely with teams across Costain to influence this new range of PPE. The wide variety of options and sizes makes the range more inclusive and accessible.”

Emily Castle Chair of Costain’s Disability and Wellbeing Network (DaWN)

“Fit for purpose PPE and workwear is essential for any individual working on an infrastructure project. It is critical that organisations invest in inclusive, more sustainable PPE and workwear that caters for their entire workforce and has been manufactured to the highest standards. We have worked with Costain to curate and produce a catalogue that is tailored to the organisation and its people’s needs.”

Heather Sperry National Account Manager at Arco

The enhanced PPE and workwear offering underlines Costain’s commitment to inclusivity for its people, who work across infrastructure projects in the road, rail, integrated transport, energy, water, defence and nuclear energy sectors. Costain is recognised as a Disability Confident Leader and actively participates in disability-focused networks such as The Valuable 500 and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme. Its headquarters in London has a range of features to create an inclusive, accessible workplace for neurodivergent and disabled employees.
