Maximising impact to local communities

Major infrastructure has the potential to improve people’s lives significantly. The design itself will provide better connections and services but more importantly, the way in which we design, build and operate these assets will add significant social value, from reducing embedded carbon to offering local employment and boosting the local economy.

At Costain, we’ve been improving people’s lives for over 150 years. We have considerable experience of working collaboratively with local stakeholders and clients to maximise social value delivery for major UK infrastructure projects.

We deliver social, economic and environmental value to society, not only through the infrastructure solutions we offer, but also via our wider investments in local communities, enabled by digital technology, to maximise the positive impact that we have on the lives of local people.

Making an impact

  • Since 2014, our supply chain academy has supported over 200 SMEs, delivering £700k in social value
  • HS2 enabling works alone has added £115m social and economic value
  • In 2020, 43% of our spend was with SMEs
  • £211K donated to UK charitable causes in 2020
