- Costain selected by WSP to provide specialist consultancy services to TfL for proposed London Overground route
Costain, the UK infrastructure specialist, will work with WSP to support the next stage of development for Transport for London’s (TfL) West London Orbital project.
The West London Orbital is a proposed 18.5-kilometre London Overground route that would connect Hounslow in the south to Hendon in the north, improving orbital connections across West and North West London, linking communities and destinations including Brent Cross, Brentford, Acton and Old Oak Common.
Costain, alongside Fereday Pollard, has been selected by WSP to work with TfL to help progress the programme, where it will draw on its strong track record delivering engineering-led solutions for complex rail infrastructure. Costain will provide engineering, constructability and consultancy expertise, covering further stakeholder engagement, timetable development and demand forecasting as TfL continues to assess how the programme could be delivered.
Costain has a strong working relationship with TfL and was recently selected to deliver transformative upgrades to South Kensington Tube station through its £700m Infrastructure Improvement Framework, having previously completed detailed design works for the upgrade of the Piccadilly Line. It is also overseeing upgrades to the A40 Westway and Brent Cross Interchange, and recently delivered the refurbished Gallows Corner Flyover.
“We are a trusted, long-term partner to Transport for London and we’re looking forward to working with WSP to help shape this hugely exciting project that will be transformative for London’s transport network, creating jobs and driving prosperity across the region.
Alistair Geddes Rail Sector Director at Costain
“We’ll be bringing our best-in-class engineering capabilities and knowledge of incorporating constructability at the earliest possible stage of complex rail programmes to build resilience into the scheme as it progresses.”
“This appointment reflects our deep understanding of the scheme and our longstanding involvement in its development. We’re proud to help turn a long-held ambition into reality and support infrastructure that could benefit communities across west London for decades to come.”
