Costain Abu Dhabi recently hosted British Standards (BSI) as they undertook surveillance for 9001/18001 (Quality and H&S) approvals, as well as the stage 2 assessment for 14001 (Environmental) approval.

At the closing meeting there were no non conformances for either 18001/9001, and were recommended for 14001 accreditation.

This achievement was all the more important as it has lifted the last potential barrier in their efforts to become the first organisation in Abu Dhabi to receive municipality EHSMS approval as required under the new Environmental Legislation. “We’ve been working very closely with the regulator to be the first organisation to gain this approval,” says Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Manager, Will Richardson-White. “We’re currently looking like the first company to push this through.”

He believes this will give Costain an advantage over its competitors: “This is something that is likely to attract media attention over here and will be good publicity for us. Costain has a strong name in Abu Dhabi and we want to make sure we maximise any opportunities to use this achievement in doing that.”

“This achievement is the result of several months planning involving a combined effort from those implementing the system in Abu Dhabi, through to those providing advice from our Group SHE department in the UK.”
