Decarbonising infrastructure delivery

Addressing climate change is the biggest challenge of the 21st century and businesses, society and government all have a significant part to play. By 2023, every solution we deliver for our clients will propose low carbon options.

We have an ambition to lead UK infrastructure into a zero carbon future by 2025 at the latest, supporting the Government in meeting their 2050 target.

2020 has seen us focus on our whole life footprint, reducing our scope one and three emissions by tackling two of our emission hotspots; vehicles and plant emissions.

Our Resource Efficiency Matrix (REM) is continually delivering benefits across our projects. Since its 2018 launch, our REM has identified over £49m in operational and capital cost savings and 1.9m tonnes of carbon emission equivalent (tCO2e) from operational and delivery phases for Costain, our clients and supply chain partners.

Take a read of our Climate Change Action Plan - one year on to learn what great strides we have taken within the first year of its launch.
