League Table Confirms 'National Favourite' Status

4 December 2013

The strength of the Costain brand has taken another major step forward in terms of national recognition.

The UK’s Most Admired League table for 2013 has just been published and Costain has moved to 55th place (joint place with Virgin Trains) from last year’s 61st. In total, 247 of Britain’s biggest companies are involved including names such as Rolls Royce, Unilever, Marks & Spencer, Royal Dutch Shell, J Sainsbury and Coca Cola Enterprises.

Costain came second (to Kier) in the Heavy Construction category and Tony Bickerstaff, Costain Group Finance Director, attended the presentation in London to receive a special award.

Other construction/engineering companies were also included in the Most Admired League Table such as (last year’s position in brackets): Laing O’Rourke 98 (154); Sir Robert McAlpine 103 (191); Carillion 116 (120); Morgan Sindall 121 (199);  Balfour Beatty 172 (38).

The Most Admired Companies league table is organised by Management Today magazine and sponsored by BSI.  The league table was compiled by asking Britain’s largest public companies in 26 sectors to evaluate their peers.
