Sellafield Fund Makes Its Biggest Donation

24 September 2012

Costain's charity fund at the Sellafield Site in West Cumbria, has successfully supported its fifth application since inception last year - its biggest grant application to date.

Managed by the Cumbria Community Foundation, the Costain Fund provides grants to support projects that help improve the lives of people in West Cumbria by raising their aspirations and achievements.

Mirehouse Community Centre was awarded £2,500 from the fund to help subsidise the cost of activities for local residents and cover the overheads of the current facility. The centre is at the heart of the community and provides a great social hub for all generations.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Keith Gaunt said: "The Mirehouse Residents Group would like to thank Costain for their fantastic generosity; this will be a massive boost to the community, and the implementation of the Groups Action Plan. We look forward to meeting again in the future to show the fruition of these plans and evidence that the funding has been well invested."

Neil Grosset, Project Manager for Costain said: "It was a great pleasure to meet Keith, members of the committee and the local residents. The facilities are fantastic. I was really honoured to be able to present our biggest donation to date to the Community Centre. They are providing a vital service for residents who otherwise wouldn't leave their homes."
