Steelwork Frames Parkway Entrance

19 November 2009

The main Northbrook Street entrance to Parkway - the new retail-led mixed-use scheme (being developed with Costain as main contractor) is now taking shape.

Steel framework for the new three and four storey buildings is now rising from ground level behind the listed, 18th century frontages that have been retained on Northbrook Street. The buildings, which will be located on either side of the new East Street entrance to the development, will provide a link to the many new shops at the heart of the scheme.

This combination of old and new is a key theme throughout Parkway, which has been designed to be both contemporary and yet in keeping with Newbury's historic market town environment.

On opening in spring 2011, Parkway - which is being developed by Standard Life Investments - will boast over 50 new shops, including a new full range Debenhams department store, as well as new restaurants and cafés. It will also include 184 new homes.
